All the groups that SiD works with, have been focusing on improvisation this term. The joy of moving and not knowing what might happen next, dancing in the moment, going with the flow, rather than learning fixed movement and sequences.

The groups, including: Highflyers, Darwing Dancers, Create , Thrive , Contact Dance Company and a Contact Dance Company Trio, shared improvised dances in a relaxed supportive setting to friends, family and fellow dancers.

Improvisation involves moving into the unknown, faith that following intuition, impulses, our own inner dancer and the energy of those around us, brings us into each unique dancing moment.

We aimed for our audience to get a feel for how we move together in our workshops and classes and to witness what happens when we all dance in the moment.

Despite some nervousness to begin with, and realising that we needed to warm up, chat through our plans in front of our audience at the beginning of each sharing, the dances were full of special moments, unexpected moments and times when groups were really building energy and creativity together.

We hope some of the images below captured by photographer Ming De Nasty have captured our ‘Dancing in the Moment’
