Shropshire Inclusive Dance are looking for an experienced, friendly and creative Set & Costume Designer to work with us on a new and exciting pop up dance project being created for outdoor spaces and performed by an inclusive cast.

About our new Pop Up show.

Our new Pop Up dance pieces will be performed in outdoor spaces.
The piece will include two duets and one trio involving a total of five dancers.
Making, devising and an initial performance of the piece will take place in Shrewsbury.
The dances performed will create an inspiring intervention for the public that will be present as part of events such as festivals, fetes, carnivals and conferences.
There is an emphasis on audiences experiencing the delight and power of dance in a light, accessible and playful way.
We want our work to shine out, be noticed and draw the eye of the public attending outdoor events.

The Role includes;
Consulting with SiD artistic directors and guest choreographer on the visual concept of the show.

Designing, creating or sourcing versatile and eye catching props & set elements that are suitable for outdoor & rural touring venues and accessible for our inclusive cast.

Designing and procuring / making costumes for the full touring team.

Key Dates

Application deadline – Monday 20th February

Interview date – Tuesday 7th March

Creative meeting with key collaborators in March (tbc)

Design day with dancers and key collaborators – Tuesday 4th April

Deadline for pilot creation of design and costumes – 15th May

Attendance as needed as part of the devising period beginning May 31st

Production week  – Thursday 22nd, Friday 23rd , Saturday 24th June (Performance day).

Person Specification

A joy in creating, collaborating and making art with others.

Experience of creating and delivering costume & set designs for small-scale dance and theatre.

Experience of designing costume and set for outdoor productions.

Understanding of the demands and challenges of outdoor touring.

Ability to make & design quickly and independently.

Flexibility to make changes and adaptions, which suit our inclusive cast.

Access to car and driving license.

Available for key dates.

Fee – £2000 plus agreed, travel / accommodation reimbursement and support with access requirements.

You will be working with a materials budget of £1000.
